Exploring Amsterdam On A Long Layover

If you have a long layover in Amsterdam, you’re in for a treat!

There are a lot of advantages to booking a long layover. (Read about a few here) On one of my recent trips to Europe, our flight had a long layover in Amsterdam. Amsterdam is a vibrant city with a rich cultural heritage, making it the perfect place to explore during a long layover. Depending on how long your layover is, you can wander the charming streets, take a canal cruise, and visit famous attractions such as the Van Gogh Museum or the Rijksmuseum.

We stored our luggage at the airport and took the train into the city. Taking the train in Amsterdam has several advantages. It is a fast and efficient way to travel around the city and to other parts of the Netherlands, with trains running frequently throughout the day. It was easy to navigate, making it a convenient option for both tourists and locals alike.

We decided to walk around and soak up the unique atmosphere and enjoy a quick lunch in one of the many cafes along our walk. Dutch pancakes, or pannenkoeken, are a popular dish in the Netherlands. They are larger and thinner than American-style pancakes and can be served with a variety of toppings. I had a sweet one with apples and my friend had guacamole and sour cream. Both stroopwafel and Dutch pancakes are delicious and well worth trying when visiting the Netherlands.

With so much to see and do, a long layover in Amsterdam is the perfect opportunity to explore this beautiful city and create some unforgettable memories.
