Relaxing in Cancun. Exploring Tulum

Fun and Adventure in Mexico

My trip to the Quintana Roo region of Mexico was filled with adventure, relaxation, and new experiences. When planning the trip, we were worried about the weather but it was mostly sunny with a little bit of rain on the last day.

I arrived in Cancun and stayed at the family-friendly Royal Solaris Cancun resort. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. My stay there was the perfect way to unwind before beginning the more adventurous portion of the trip.

After a few days of soaking up the sun at the resort, my group of 10 and I rented two minivans and headed to Tulum. In Tulum, we stayed at Jungle Keva, a unique and eco-friendly property surrounded by lush jungle. The stay gave us a chance to connect with nature.

While in Tulum, we made sure to visit the cenotes. These natural sinkholes are created by the collapse of limestone bedrock, revealing the groundwater beneath it. The water in cenotes is incredibly clear because it is filtered through the limestone, which acts as a natural filter, removing impurities from the water. The depth of a cenote can range from a few feet to over 130 feet, making them a unique place to swim, dive, and explore.

For the adrenaline junkies in our group, we decided to take on an adventure and went ziplining through the lush jungles of Quintana Roo. The exhilarating rush of soaring high above the treetops, with the wind in our faces and the beautiful scenery below, was a truly unforgettable experience that left us all feeling invigorated and alive.

We also had the opportunity to taste local cuisine and visit popular spots like M Tulum and Taboo Beach Club. These vibrant hotspots are the perfect place to grab a drink and dance. Taboo sits right on the water. Relax in a lounge chair and listen to music with your toes in the sand, all while taking in the breathtaking ocean view.

One of the highlights of the trip was a mezcal and tequila-tasting experience at Tu Tulum, where we learned about the different varieties and history of these popular Mexican spirits. During the tasting, we had the chance to sample various types of mezcal and learn about the different flavors and aromas. It’s an opportunity to savor the complex taste of this distilled beverage while discovering the rich cultural heritage of Mexico.

We also made sure to explore the local biosphere and went down the natural lazy river. The lush greenery and abundant wildlife made for a truly unforgettable experience. Floating down the natural lazy river in the heart of the biosphere was a serene and peaceful way (once I got over my fear) to take in the stunning scenery and immerse ourselves in nature.

To make the most of our trip to Quintana Roo, we also took a day trip to Isla Mujeres, a charming island just off the coast of Cancun. We spent the day lounging on the beautiful beaches, snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters, and exploring the colorful streets of the town. From the stunning views to the delicious local cuisine, Isla Mujeres was a fantastic addition to our Mexican adventure.

We ended our trip with a relaxing stay at an Airbnb back in Cancun before our flight home. This final stop was the perfect way to decompress and reflect on all the amazing memories we had made.

However, the trip was not without its challenges. We encountered some pesky bugs and had a run-in with the Federale during our travels, which can be a bit intimidating. However, these challenges did not take away from the overall incredible experience of the trip.

My trip to Quintana Roo, Mexico, was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. The natural beauty, delicious food, and welcoming people made for an incredible adventure. I encourage all travelers to explore this incredible region and create their own unforgettable memories.
